Field Report

Agent Robinson Wickes forwarded the following report some weeks ago. Wickes current whereabouts are unknown; no news has been received of either his capture or death. Commissioner Reid remains optimistic regarding his eventual reappearance, reminding his Control of Wickes' long experience of living in enemy territory under deep cover.

Included below is an extract from Wickes' report:

Though thirty years have now elapsed since the great battles waged hereabouts the area remains blighted by the on-going effects of the English Economic Civil War. Despite local units' refusal to take action and their subsequent tacit support for Monetarist factions, it is a matter of quiet satisfaction that the North Notts counter-revolutionary turn went unrewarded and the local populace suffer the same vicissitudes as our loyal comrades from the neighbouring former Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire and the Derbyshire Collective.

Evidence of institutionalised impoverishment and blatant economic vandalism abound. In the immediate vicinity a subsidised 'Advice Point' develops the local capacity to accept state sponsored impoverishment; this  masquerdes as training in debt management - thus local loan sharks and profiteering landlords are empowered. The poverty infrastructure includes a pawn-brokers, a bulk cash for clothes shop and a large warehouse trading under the name 'Second Hand City'.

Government agencies have removed control of the local primary school placing it under the auspices of an anonomous 'Academy Provider' committed to delivering a school curriculum more in line with monetarist principles.

There is little prospect of immediate change. Current strategies are malign, but highly effective. Destruction of the industrial infrastructure and jobs, combined with recently reduced state benefits effectively demoralises the populace. Yet blame has been  shifted to the poor through Monetarist funded media propaganda such as 'Benefit Street'. The ingenuity of this twin-pronged attack is darkly admirable. Our adversaries are clever and determined and in the ascendancy.

I am moving south now towards the enemy's heartland. I will report further through the usual channels in due course.
